AED & CPR Training That expected defibrillator users receive appropriate training in an American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or other nationally recognized cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course and AED, or an equivalent nationally recognized course.Emergency University provides CPR and manufacturer specific AED training which is developed in accordance with the guidelines published by the American Heart Association and ILCOR (International Liaison Committee On Resuscitation).
Equipment Maintenance That the defibrillator is maintained and tested according to the manufacturer's operational guidelines.A Routine Maintenance Program is developed by Emergency University which meets manufacturer guidelines. Tracking of routine maintenance dates and automated emails notifying of upcoming maintenance provided by EU Program Manager Database. EU staff comes in to site to perform maintenance functions and maintains compliance.
Medical Direction That there is involvement of a licensed physician or medical authority in the site's AED program to ensure compliance with training, notification, and maintenance.All AED response plans, policies and procedures, and protocols developed by EU are reviewed and approved by a licensed physician prior to implementation.
AED Program Implementation That any person who renders emergency care or treatment to a person in cardiac arrest by using an AED activates the emergency medical services system as soon as possible.Emergency University's educational programs include training on prompt activation of the emergency medical services system.
Regulatory Compliance A person or entity who acquires an automated external defibrillator shall notify the local emergency communications center or dispatch center of the existing location and type of AED.Emergency University notifies the local EMS agency of the date acquired, manufacturer, and model of the AED and its location. Notification information is stored in the EU AED Program Manager database.
