AED & CPR Training In order for an entity to use or allow the use of an automated external defibrillator, the entity shall establish a program for the use of an AED that include a written plan that complies with [sections 2 through 7] and rules adopted by the department pursuant to [section 4]. The plan must specify where the AED will be placed, the individuals who are authorized to operate the AED, how AED use will be coordinated with an emergency medical service providing services in the area where the AED is located, the medical supervision that will be provided, the maintenance that will be performed on the AED, the records that will be kept by the program, the reports that will be made of AED use, the name location and telephone number of a physician, or other individual designated by the physician, designated to provide medical supervision of the AED program.EU's AED Worksafe Program provides Medical Direction. Licensed Physicians review every use of the AED and EU notifies the local EMS agency of that use. A written report of the review is prepared and sent to the company's designee. EU staff, in conjunction with company designees, develops a site specific emergency response plan, AED use protocol, and AED policy and procedures. These documents are posted in the EU Program manager database as downloadable pdf files which can be easily accessed and printed at the local site. The Emergency Response plan includes both notification of the internal responders as well as timely notification of 911. Emergency University notifies the local EMS agency/dispatch center of the date acquired, manufacturer, and model of the AED and its location. Notification information is stored in the EU AED Program Manager database.
AED & CPR Training Ensure that before using the AED, an individual authorized to operate the AED receives appropriate training approved by the department in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the proper us of an AED.Emergency University provides CPR and manufacturer specific AED training which is developed in accordance with the guidelines published by the American Heart Association and ILCOR (International Liaison Committee On Resuscitation).
Equipment Maintenance Maintain, test and operate the AED according to the manufacturer's guidelines and maintain written records of all maintenance and testing performed on the AED.Routine Maintenance Program is developed by Emergency University which meets manufacturer guidelines. Tracking of routine maintenance dates and automated emails notifying of upcoming maintenance are provided by the EU Program Manager Database. EU staff comes to the site to perform maintenance functions and maintains compliance.
Medical Direction Ensure that the physician or other individual designated by the physician to supervise the AED program supervises the AED program to ensure compliance with the written plan, and rules adopted by the department and review each case in which the AED is used.EU's AED Worksafe Program provides Medical Direction. AED Program Implementation Each time an AED is used for an individual in cardiac arrest, require that an emergency medical service is summoned to provide assistance as soon as possible and that the AED use is reported to the supervising physician or the person designated by the physician and to the department as required by the written plan.Emergency University's educational programs include training on prompt activation of the emergency medical services system.
Regulatory Compliance Before allowing any use of an AED, provide the following to all licensed emergency medical service and any public safety answering point or emergency dispatch center providing services to the area where the AED is located; a copy of the plan prepared pursuant to this section, written notice, in a format prescribed by department rules stating that an AED program is established by the entity, where the AED is located and how the use is to be coordinated with the local emergency medical service system.Emergency University notifies the local EMS agency/dispatch center of the date acquired, manufacturer, model of the AED and its location and a copy of the AED Response Plan. Notification information is stored in the EU AED Program Manager database.
