Medical Direction A person who acquires an AED shall ensure that a physician medical director oversees all aspects of the defibrillation program, including training, emergency medical services coordination, protocol approval, AED deployment strategies and other program requirementsEU's AED Worksafe Program provides Medical Direction. Licensed Physicians review every use of the AED and EU notifies the local EMS agency of that use. A written report of the review is prepared and sent to the company's designee. EU staff, in conjunction with company designees, develops a site specific emergency response plan, AED use protocol, and AED policy and procedures. These documents are posted in the EU Program manager database as downloadable pdf files which can be easily accessed and printed at the local site. The Emergency Response plan includes both notification of the internal responders as well as timely notification of 911.
Post Cardiac Event Services The physician medical director provides overall quality assurance and reviews each case in which the AED is used by the program.A licensed Emergency University Physician reviews each use of the AED and provides overall quality assurance for the program.
AED & CPR Training The trained targeted responder receives appropriate training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and in the use of an AED by a nationally recognized course in the use of an AED by a nationally recognized course in cardiopulmonary response and AED use approved by the department or other training programs authorized by the department.Emergency University provides CPR and manufacturer specific AED training which is developed in accordance with the guidelines published by the American Heart Association and ILCOR (International Liaison Committee On Resuscitation).
Equipment Maintenance The defibrillator is maintained and tested according to the manufacturer's guidelinesRoutine Maintenance Program is developed by Emergency University which meets manufacturer guidelines. Tracking of routine maintenance dates and automated emails notifying of upcoming maintenance are provided by the EU Program Manager Database. EU staff comes to the site to perform maintenance functions and maintains compliance.
AED Program Implementation Any person who renders emergency care or treatment on a person in cardiac arrest by using an AED activate the emergency medical system as soon as possible and reports any clinical use of the AED to the physician medical director. Emergency University's educational programs include training on prompt activation of the emergency medical services system. Users of the AED are instructed to send voice and ECG data from the AED along with the written response documentation form to EU for physician review.
Regulatory Compliance The AED program is registered with the department and the local emergency medical services and local 911 agencies have been notified of the AED program.Emergency University notifies the local EMS agency/dispatch center of the date acquired, manufacturer, and model of the AED and its location. Notification information is stored in the EU AED Program Manager database.
