Regulatory Compliance Notify the department of health, upon acquisition of an automated external defibrillator, of the location of and the type of automated external defibrillator.Emergency University notifies the Department of Health and local EMS agency/dispatch center of the date acquired, manufacturer, and model of the AED and its location. Notification information is stored in the EU AED Program Manager database.
AED & CPR Training Require every individual expected to use the automated external defibrillator to receive American heart association or American red cross training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator use or an equivalent nationally recognized course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator use.Emergency University provides CPR and manufacturer specific AED training which is developed in accordance with the guidelines published by the American Heart Association and ILCOR (International Liaison Committee On Resuscitation).
Equipment Maintenance Maintain and test the automated external defibrillator according to the manufacturer's operation guidelines.Routine Maintenance Program is developed by Emergency University which meets manufacturer guidelines. Tracking of routine maintenance dates and automated emails notifying of upcoming maintenance are provided by the EU Program Manager Database. EU staff comes to the site to perform maintenance functions and maintains compliance.
AED Program Implementation Establish an automated external defibrillator use protocol that provides any person who provides emergency care of treatment to an individual in cardiac arrest by using the automated external defibrillator shall contact as soon as possible an appropriate health care provider or emergency medical services provider.Emergency University's educational programs include training on prompt activation of the emergency medical services system. Users of the AED are instructed to send voice and ECG data from the AED along with the written response documentation form to EU for physician review.
Medical Direction Consider recommendations of a licensed physician in establishing the training, notification, and maintenance requirements of this subsection.EU's AED Worksafe Program provides Medical Direction. Licensed Physicians review every use of the AED and EU notifies the local EMS agency of that use. A written report of the review is prepared and sent to the company's designee. EU staff, in conjunction with company designees, develops a site specific emergency response plan, AED use protocol, and AED policy and procedures. These documents are posted in the EU Program manager database as downloadable pdf files which can be easily accessed and printed at the local site. The Emergency Response plan includes both notification of the internal responders as well as timely notification of 911.
