AED & CPR Training Ensure that defibrillator users successfully complete an American Heart Association automated external defibrillator course or the equivalent and an American Heart Association cardiopulmonary resuscitation course or the equivalent, taught by a national or state approved instructor. The user of a defibrillator shall possess demonstrated proficiency in defibrillation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.Emergency University provides CPR and manufacturer specific AED training which is developed in accordance with the guidelines published by the American Heart Association and ILCOR (International Liaison Committee On Resuscitation). Emergency University's blended training program provides hands on practice and verification of CPR and AED skills.
Equipment Maintenance Ensure that the defibrillator is maintained and tested according to the manufacturer's operational guidelines.EU staff inspects the AED after each use. Company AED site manager performs checks monthly (or more frequently depending on manufacturer regulations. EU AED Program manager database tracks dates routine maintenance is performed and generates automatic reminder emails of upcoming maintenance. EU staff monitors compliance and notifies company AED site manager of non compliance.
Medical Direction Enlist medical direction by a licensed physician in the use of the defibrillator and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. EU's AED Worksafe Program provides Medical Direction. An AED Response Documentation Form is completed with each use of the defibrillator and sent to EU. EU's Licensed Physicians review every use of the AED and EU notifies the local EMS agency of that use. A written report of the review is prepared and sent to the company's designee.
Regulatory Compliance Requires a person or entity in possession of a defibrillator to notify the ambulance service provider that serves the area where the person or entity is located or the emergency medical services commission of the acquisition and location of the defibrillator.Emergency University notifies the local EMS agency and/or ambulance service provider of the date acquired, manufacturer, and model of the AED and its location. Notification information is stored in the EU AED Program Manager database.
AED Program Implementation Requires a person who uses a defibrillator to contact the ambulance service provider or a fire department that provides ambulance service to the area as soon as practicable following the use of the defibrillator.Emergency University's educational programs include training on prompt activation of the emergency medical services system.
