AED & CPR Training Obtain appropriate training approved by the department. PAD provider training shall include as a minimum: successful course completion in Adult CPR, including one rescuer CPR, foreign body airway obstruction, rescue breathing, recovery position, and activating the EMS system and successful completion of an AED curriculum approved by the department.Emergency University provides CPR and manufacturer specific AED training which is developed in accordance with the guidelines published by the American Heart Association and ILCOR (International Liaison Committee On Resuscitation). Training includes Adult CPR (including one person CPR), foreign body airway obstruction, rescue breathing, recovery position, and activating the EMS system.
Medical Direction PAD service program must provide a medical director licensed under Iowa Code chapter 148, 150, or 150A who shall be responsible for the overall medical direction of the PAD service program.EU's AED Worksafe Program provides Medical Direction. Licensed Emergency Medicine physicians monitor all aspects of the PAD program including training, policies and procedures, response plans, AED maintenance and post cardiac event services.
Post Cardiac Event Services Make simultaneous voice/ECG recordings on each call where CPR is performed. Submit a copy of the patient care report and the original voice/ECG recording to the department or department designee within 48 hours of the cardiac arrest.EU's AED Worksafe Program provides Medical Direction. An AED Response Documentation Form is completed with each use of the defibrillator and sent to EU along with the ECG/voice recording. EU's Licensed Physicians review every use of the AED and EU notifies the local EMS agency of that use. A written report of the review is prepared and sent to the EMS agency with the voice/ECG recording with a copy of the report to the company's designee.
Equipment Maintenance Implement a policy for periodic maintenance of the AED.EU staff inspects the AED after each use. Company AED site manager performs checks monthly (or more frequently depending on manufacturer regulations. EU AED Program manager database tracks dates routine maintenance is performed and generates automatic reminder emails of upcoming maintenance. EU staff monitors compliance and notifies company AED site manager of non compliance.
AED Program Implementation Identify which authorized Iowa ambulance service program's) will provide patient transportation.Emergency University notifies the local ambulance service provider and EMS agency of the date acquired, manufacturer, and model of the AED and its location. Notification information is stored in the EU AED Program Manager database.
AED & CPR Training Ensure PAD providers complete quarterly practice sessions in the use of the AED.EU's online training is available for unlimited review 24/7. Quarterly hands on skills verification is provided.
