AED & CPR Training

Regulation

Expected AED users complete a knowledge and skills course in CPR and AED use based upon current American Heart Association scientific guidelines, standards, and recommendations for providing CPR and the use of AEDs as published in American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or equivalent course materials

EU Solution

Emergency University provides CPR and manufacturer specific AED training which is developed in accordance with the guidelines published by the American Heart Association and ILCOR (International Liaison Committee On Resuscitation).

Equipment Maintenance

The defibrillator is maintained and tested according to the manufacturer's operations guidelines and instructions

EU Solution

EU staff inspects the AED after each use. Company AED site manager performs checks monthly (or more frequently depending on manufacturer regulations. EU AED Program manager database tracks dates routine maintenance is performed and generates automatic reminder emails of upcoming maintenance. EU staff monitors compliance and notifies company AED site manager of non compliance.

Medical Direction

There is the involvement of a physician or medical authority to the site's AED program to ensure compliance with requirements for training, notification, and maintenance.

AED Program Implementation

Regulation

Any person who renders emergency care or treatment on a person in cardiac arrest by using an AED activates the emergency medical services system as soon as possible and reports any clinical use of the AED to the physician or medical authority as well as to emergency medical services providers.

EU Solution

Emergency University's educational programs include training on prompt activation of the emergency medical services system. An AED Response Documentation Form is completed with each use of the defibrillator and sent to EU. EU's Licensed Physicians review every use of the AED and EU notifies the local EMS agency of that use. A written report of the review is prepared and sent to the company's designee.

Regulatory Compliance

Regulation

Any person or entity who acquires an AED shall notify an agent of emergency communications, 911, or vehicle dispatch center of the existence, location, and type of AED.

EU Solution

Emergency University notifies the local EMS agency of the date acquired, manufacturer, and model of the AED and its location. Notification information is stored in the EU AED Program Manager database.
