Emergency University is pleased to announce the winner of the 2014 $1,000 Student Scholarship Award! Though there were more than 180 entries and many worthy candidates, the winner, Dallas Vanderham, wrote a very impressive Emergency Response Plan which demonstrated rare insight into the importance of a systems approach to emergency care response.
Dallas Nicole Vanderham grew up in the small town of Rock Island, IL. She graduated from High School in 2012 and has been working to complete the prerequisites needed for Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences, where she has been accepted to complete her nursing degree. Dallas works as a full time Patient Care Tech employed at Trinity Hospital where she assists nurses in both the Cardiac and Medical ICUs.
She became interested in healthcare because of the nurses who came to her home to care for family members. Dallas was impressed by the support and care that they showed not only their patients, but the family as a whole. She wants to be that person who gives to others and makes a difference in her patients' lives.
Quoting Dallas, "In my two years working in the ICU I have been a part of many situations that have been emotionally hard, but have helped me grow not only as a person but as a future nurse. I love helping people and feeling like I am making a difference in the lives of others. I can’t wait to start nursing school and begin my career as a nurse! I am thankful for this support."
